Starting today, 16 July, food and beverage outlets in Sarawak can open for dine-ins, according to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)

The decision to allow dine-ins in the state comes after standard operating procedures were revised for eateries under Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), said SDMC.

It, however, added that only operators and workers who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are allowed to operate the dine-in services.

“They are allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm, with a 50% workforce,” the committee said.

Among the SOPs, a 2m gap between tables for dine-in customers has to be practised at all times by the outlet operators

The disaster management committee said that for a small table with a 1m diameter, only two people are allowed. Tables with 1.2m diameter can seat four people while six people can sit at a 2m diameter table.

Additionally, the outlets will also have to display the maximum capacity at the entrance.

All music and live performances, including those in bistros, are still prohibited.

The committee also reminded the economic sectors that are allowed to operate to always comply with the SOPs, warning that it will not hesitate to take action against anyone for non-compliance.

“The committee will immediately close their operations for 14 days if COVID-19 cases are reported to have spread from their premises. The cost of screening and sanitisation will have to be borne by the owners or operators of the eateries,” it said, adding that compound notices will also be issued to operators and workers who fail to comply with the SOPs.
