PENAMPANG: More than 5,200 vehicles were checked by police at four roadblocks in Penampang and Putatan in the fourth phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO 3.0).

Penampang police chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said  20 vehicles were instructed to turn back.

“All the 5,200 vehicles that were checked at the roadblocks in Penampang and Putatan were either providing essential services or had appropriate letters to allow them to travel during the MCO 3.0.

“Only 20 vehicles were instructed to turn back as they have no purpose to be on the road or had violated the standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said during a check at Plaza 333 Commercial Centre in Penampang on Thursday night.

All business premises were closed at 7pm, in abiding to the new SOP under MCO 3.0.

“Today’s inspection (Thursday) saw all business premises were closed as early as 7pm.

“The people of Penampang have begun to understand the importance of the new SOP, as we are into our third phase of the movement control order.

“Although there are a couple of individuals who violated the SOP, but I am satisfied with how the people in Penampang and Putatan are complying with the new norm and the latest SOP,” he said, urging business owners and members of the public to continue to play their part in breaking the chain of the Covid-19 virus.

Haris also reminded business owner and the staff not to have their lunch in open space or in group as it violates the SOP.

“Police are not stopping you from having your meal but do it out of view while continue to practice social distancing,” he said.
