KUALA LUMPUR: Three MPS under quarantine will be brought to the Parliament building in ambulances, wearing personal protective equipment (PPEs) and be ushered into a special room so they can vote on Budget 2021.

Speaker Azhar Harun confirmed this at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

“They must be wearing personal protective equipment (PPEs).

“If they want to vote, they will have to change into another set of PPE and will then be placed at the public gallery,” Azhar said.

He added those counting the votes will also have to wear protective gear but will have to limit their contact as they take the voting papers.

Azhar was responding to Kelvin Yii (PH-Bandar Kuching) who questioned the need to alter Covid-19 SOPs by allowing those under quarantine to enter the Dewan Rakyat.

However, the Speaker said he was following the Covid-19 procedures based on the health ministry’s regulations.

Opposition MPs unhappy with the move also questioned the double standards practised as the people were not allowed out of their house during quarantine.

To which, Azhar called for them not to politicise the issue.

It was reported yesterday that the three MPs are Health Minister Dr Adham Baba (BN-Tenggara), Human Resources Minister M Saravanan (BN-Tapah) and P Prabakaran (PH-Batu).

At present, only 80 MPs are allowed to be present during the debates in the Dewan Rakyat for debates while all 222 MPs are allowed to vote.
