PETALING JAYA: A man who assaulted a 27-year-old woman for honking at him has been fined RM2,000.

In a statement, Cheras police chief Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said the 58-year-old man, who runs a restaurant, had pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt, an offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

“The case is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the man (on Wednesday). The man was arrested on the same day and charged in court on Dec 17 (yesterday),” said Mokhsein.

Earlier, the victim, identified only as SnOw Kwong, posted a video of the assault at a condominium in Taman Desa Petaling on social media. It has since gone viral.

She said she had wanted to drive into the condominium’s car park but was blocked by the man’s car, a dark blue Mercedes-Benz.

“I waited for a few minutes before I started to honk and the car finally moved so I could park my car.”

But after leaving her car, she was confronted by the man who asked if she was the one who honked at him, and when said she did, he began assaulting her.

“Without warning, he grabbed my hair and continuously punched me on the head and face. I was terrified and ran behind a car to hide as I was alone and defenceless,” she said, adding that she managed to call her father for help.

“Due to the beating, my mouth and gums were bleeding badly as I’m wearing braces. The impact of those punches on my head gave me a massive headache and caused swelling.”

She said she called police and while waiting for them to arrive, a security guard brought her attacker to the car park.

She alleged that the man brought along a chopper which he tucked into the back of his pants, and shared a photo of this.

But, she said, the man threw the chopper away when police arrived.

After making a report, the victim said the man’s sons apologised to her and asked her not to press charges because their father was stressed.

“Does that mean that anyone is allowed to treat others like a punching (bag) if they are stressed?

“What if the police didn’t arrive on time? What would he have done with the chopping knife which he hid behind his waist?”
