KUCHING (July 3): Police yesterday arrested a 37-year-old man near Kampung Opar, Bau after finding him in possession of a homemade shotgun in his car.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the police also found five shotgun catridges that were kept inside a sling bag.

“The man was sitting alone inside the car when a police patrol unit was patrolling at area to check on drug activities under Op Tapis,” said Poge in a statement today.

He added that the man also has a past criminal record, and had tested positive for methamphetamine during a drug test at the district police headquarters.

The man is currently being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for the illegal possession of the shotgun.

In another case, police arrest two men aged 22 and 36-year-old after they were both tested positive for methamphetamine.

They were picked up separately at Kampung Opar during checks.

“No drugs were found on both suspects,” said Poge adding that both are currently being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
