Local lockdowns to end in Sabah and Perak

Lockdowns in several localities in Kota Kinabalu and Ipoh will be lifted but a factory dormitory will remain under EMCO for a week.

PETALING JAYA: Local lockdowns under the enhanced movement control order are being lifted in several localities in Kota Kinabalu and Ipoh.

However, the EMCO at the Yamaha factory worker dormitory near Taman Klebang Jaya, Ipoh, will remain in force for another seven days from Dec 15 until Dec 21.

Ipoh and Chemor in the Hulu Kinta subdistrict of Perak will also remain under a partial lockdown under a conditional movement control order until Dec 20.

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the lifting of the restrictions which comes on the advice of the health ministry as the number of new infections has fallen.

The EMCO at Kg. Numbak and the Telipok settlement in Kota Kinabalu, started on Nov 16 and is scheduled to end today, while the lockdown in Zone A of Taman Klebang Jaya and in Taman Pinji Mewah, both in Ipoh, Perak will end as scheduled tomorrow (Dec 14).

The CMCO restrictions in Kinta district, Perak, will also end tomorrow except for Ipoh and Chemor.

Ismail Sabri said 655 people were arrested yesterday for flouting movement restriction rules; 587 were issued compound fines, while 67 people were remanded. One was allowed police bail.

Among the offences were activities at entertainment centres (292), flouting physical-distancing rules (179), not wearing face-masks (99), failure to prepare equipment to record customers’ personal details (75) and others (10).
