PETALING JAYA: Kossan Rubber Industries has become the latest glove manufacturer to record Covid-19 cases among its workers.

A spokesman told FMT “there had been some cases” as a result of workplace screenings which started last week but was unwilling to provide the exact number of workers who had tested positive.

“We cannot confirm anything until the health ministry announces it.

“The cases happened in the Klang area and will not affect all of our factories.”

The spokesman said the screenings were continuing.

Glove manufacturer Hartalega had announced 35 Covid-19 cases among its workers last week.

Earlier, Top Glove had to battle to contain a growing number of cases after detecting infections among its workers last month.

Being the world’s largest glove manufacturer, Top Glove’s factories in Meru were the centre of the Teratai cluster — the biggest in the country.

The Teratai cluster recorded nine new cases today. There have been 5,540 cases linked to the cluster — the majority of whom are Top Glove’s workers.

Top Glove yesterday confirmed one of its employees had died due to Covid-19, the first such death the company is aware of.
