Kapitan uses own way to gather support for immunisation programme

LIMBANG (July 8): A 69-year-old Chinese community leader in Limbang has taken the initiative to call on the public to support the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Using a loudspeaker, Kapitan Lee Ying Chiong, on his motorbike, went around various housing estates in Limbang since last week to encourage the people to support the immunisation programme.

“This is my way of providing the latest information and update on Covid-19 vaccination programme to the people under my care as well as reminding those who have received their notifications to go out and attend their vaccination appointment.

“Thus far, I’ve already gone to Taman Cahaya, Taman Indah, Taman Bunga Simpor, Canary Park and Sibukang areas,” said the SMK Limbang ex-principal to The Borneo Post yesterday.

Although housing areas in Ranggau are not under Lee’s jurisdiction, he also went to there for similar purpose after receiving many enquiries from the residents there on the vaccination programme.

“There is no community leader at Ranggau housing area yet. That is why I went there on Tuesday to provide the people there with information on the vaccination programme.”

The village security and development committee (JKKK) chairman for areas along Jalan 7 Batu Keliling also used the same method to disseminate information on Rabies vaccination programme and for the food basket programme implemented under Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 to the people living under his jurisdiction.

“Such method of disseminating information to the public has been practised by me during my tenure as principal.

“Now, I apply the same approach to ensure all the important information and messages from the government can reach the people at the grassroots level.”
