Kamunting Centre, Perak to go under EMCO

PETALING JAYA: The Kamunting Correctional Centre (Kemta) and its quarters in Taiping, Perak will be put under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO), Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

In a statement, he said the lockdown would be implemented from tomorrow until Jan 12, 2021.

The health ministry has recorded a total of 50 positive cases out of 1,490 residents in the locality so far.

On the daily offences, he said police arrested 142 people yesterday over movement control order-related offences. All were issued compounds.

Among the offences were taking part in activities at entertainment centres, failure to wear face masks and failing to provide materials for contact tracing or registration, among others.

A total of 2,805 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, among others.

Ismail also said police caught 16 illegal immigrants and seized three vehicles under Op Benteng.

He added that 93,728 people had arrived through KLIA from July 24 to Dec 28 from various countries.

A total of 540 people were sent to hospital for treatment, while 85,670 were allowed to return home. A total of 7,518 people are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
