Jelani new Sabah FC director

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Jelani Hamdan has been appointed as the new Sabah Football Club (Sabah FC) director.

Jelani, who is also vice president of the Sabah Football Association (Safa), will take over from Benedict Asmat, the current Safa secretary general.

President of Safa, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, announced the new appointment on Tuesday and said the switch was just a normal procedure to allow for both to better focus on their respective tasks.

He said Benedict will continue to give priority on administrative works as the secretary general while Jelani to concentrate on his new responsibility as the director of Sabah FC.

“The minor reshuffle  is aimed enhancing the management of both Safa and Sabah FC and I’m confident that they have the experience and capability to carry out their respective duties,” he said.

Bung, who is also the Works Minister, said this after presenting the letter of appointment to Jelani at his office in Sembulan near here.

Safa executive secretary David Wisom was also present.

Meanwhile, Jelani described the appointment as a huge responsibilty for him where among the task is to achieve football excellence, especially to make Sabah FC as a force to be reckoned with in the country.

“I’m really honoured by the appointment and I will do my utmost best for Sabah FC,” said Jelani, who is also the team manager of the Sabah women football squad.

For the record, the state senior men’s football squad, Sabah FC, are currently seventh in the Super League standing on 16 points (four wins, four draws and five losses).

The Rhinos will resume their league match against PJ City FC at the MBPJ Stadium on July 24.
