The Japanese government is inviting Malaysian students to apply for their 2022 MEXT Undergraduate Studies Scholarship programme for a chance to study in Japan
The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia announced that application for the scholarship programme is open now until 28 May 2021.
The scholarships are targeted towards Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers, especially Malaysians aged 17 to 25, who aim to start their bachelor’s degree at a Japanese university by April 2022.

The scholarships cover monthly allowances, all tuition and examinations, as well as a round-trip flight ticket to Japan
Although the amount is subject to change, the embassy said recipients will get a monthly stipend of JPY117,000 (RM4,400) for five to seven years, depending on the length of the undergraduate course.
The government is looking for students with an interest in the field of:
– Natural Sciences (such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Agriculture, Food Science, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medicine, Dentistry, etc), or
– Social Sciences (such as Law, Politics, Sociology, Literature, History, Economics, Business Administration, etc).

Students who have completed their Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), matriculation, or diploma in Malaysia are also encouraged to apply
Needless to say, all applicants must have excellent results in major subjects and a good command of English or Japanese.
Application forms and guidelines can be printed out from the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia’s website, but interested students may also pay the embassy’s education counsellor in Kuala Lumpur a visit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10am to 12pm.
