I’ll stay on as Sarawak PKR chairman for now, says Sng after discussion with Anwar

KUCHING (Dec 26): Julau MP Larry Sng will remain as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman for the time being, he said in a statement today.

Sng, who had on Dec 21 announced his resignation as state PKR chairman, said he had reached some kind of understanding with the party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after a long open discussion yesterday.

“Our discussions touched on suitable Dayak leaders in Keadilan Sarawak, Keadilan Sarawak’s autonomy, framework on the selection of candidates for election and our position on working with parties outside of PH (Pakatan Harapan).

“We managed to reach an understanding and I shall remain as chairman for the interim.

“I appreciate the support and full confidence that the president and Keadilan Sarawak has given me to lead them the party in the coming state elections,” said Sng.

On Monday, Sng announced on his Facebook page that it was in the best interest of the party to be led by a Dayak leader going into the state election, since a majority of the state’s population was from the Dayak community.

He also said the poorest and most undeveloped areas in the state were within rural Dayak constituencies and major ruling and opposition political parties in the state were led either by the Malays or Chinese, despite the parties being largely supported by the Dayak community.
