IGP: Police to tap FBI, China cops for expertise on new squad to fight AI, deepfake cybercrime

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — The police’s new Technical and Tactical Cyber Unit will receive training from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and China’s law enforcement, according to Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain.

The inspector-general told New Straits Times that he hoped to discuss this collaboration during a visit to China starting today.

“Part of their training will involve them learning from the best practices of our counterparts in the region,” he was quoted as saying.

Razarudin said he will broach the topic of having the Malaysian unit train in person in China.

The IGP said the unit’s focus will be on combatting complex cybercrimes, such as those involving artificial intelligence and deepfakes.

With 17 members initially, the unit will also receive training in Australia.
