HONOR V40 Launch Reportedly Delayed To January 2021

HONOR was originally expected to announce the new V40 smartphone in December, according to sources. However, a recent tip has revealed that its unveiling may have been delayed further to January 2021, which would also see it potentially launch within the same month as the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S21 and Xiaomi Mi 11.

Information of the delay was brought forward by Teme (@RODENT950) on Twitter yesterday on 1 December and was picked up by GSMArena and Gizmochina. Aside from mentioning the V40’s delay, the tipster also vaguely suggested that the brand’s next generation flagship product, the HONOR 40, may feature a “super zoom” capability.

Reasons for the delay has not been made known, although it is likely due to recent events surrounding the brand. Ever since its departure from its former parent company Huawei last month, HONOR has been keeping quiet regarding its upcoming products. Earlier rumours have pointed out that the V40 may not feature Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin chipset which seems very likely due to the recent split.

According to Gizmochina, there’s a possibility that the new phone may feature a MediaTek chip. However, given the fact that the V-series would traditionally feature a Kirin flagship SoC in the past, perhaps HONOR may consider going for the next best thing now that it is an independent company; a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

Speculations aside, HONOR has yet to officially reveal if it is planning to debut the V40 or any other products under its banner. We will keep you posted once we’ve received more information regarding the brand’s upcoming device.
