KUCHING (Aug 22): Several Rural Transformation Porgramme (RTP) projects in the Simanggang state constituency are being implemented smoothly despite the Covid-19 pandemic, said Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.
The Assistant Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister said these RTP projects were part of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government’s efforts to develop the rural areas.
“Among them being implemented is the construction of the Sungai Klassen Bridge which also involved the construction of road at Rh Rangga, Sungai Tenggak B in Simanggang, at a cost of RM350,000,” he said in a statement today following a recent site visit.
According to Harden, the project is 40 per cent in progress and expected to be completed by Oct 4.
Once completed, he said the basic infrastructure in the area will be improved for the local community there to enhance their agricultural activities.
Another project, he said, involved the construction of a 400-metre road leading to the Rh Ringgit Cemetery, Ibol in Undop, Sri Aman at a cost of RM300,000.
The project is said to be 95 per cent completed.
He said the community there will be able to enjoy better road access once the project is done.
“Another project, which involves the construction of an 800-metre road at Kampung Tekalong and Siga Cemetery (Kubur Melanjan) at a cost of RM200,000 is also being implemented.”
He added that the local residents there applied for the project, which the Sri Aman Public Works Department (JKR) is the implementing agency.
Harden said all these RTP projects were fully-funded by the GPS government to improve basic infrastructure and offer greater convenience to the rural folk.
He hoped that the local community would be appreciative of the government’s efforts.
