GOF seize almost RM800,000 in illicit cigarettes, alcohol in operation at Kampung Sudat

KUCHING (Mar 1): Illicit cigarettes and alcoholic beverages with a total value of RM741,199.55, including unpaid taxes, have been seized by the General Operations Force (GOF) from a premises in Kampung Sudat near here under their ‘Ops Libas’ operation.

Sarawak GOF Commander SAC Mancha Ata said five suspects, from 20 to 40 years old, were also arrested at the location in the raid at 7.45am.

All of the suspects were arrested under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, he said.

“The suspects were only employees. They failed to produce any legal documents on the items which were the illicit cigarettes and various types of alcoholic beverages with unpaid customs duty,” he said in a statement today.

He said the items seized included 1,500 cartons of illicit cigarettes worth RM 225,000, 1,700 cartons of alcoholic beverages worth RM 311,199.55, two multipurpose vehicles worth RM90,000, and two lorries estimated to be RM100,000 and RM60,000.

All of the items were handed over to the Padawan district police headquarters for further action.
