KUCHING (June 26): Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) through its Digital Village has partnered with Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) to organise the virtual Global Market-Fit Programme (GMP).

This virtual programme to be held from August 1 to September 24, aims to support Sarawak startups to accelerate growth with new product or solution market-fit strategies expanding to China.

TEGAS chairman Datu Len Talif Salleh in a statement today said the programme is now open for applications.

The statement also revealed TEGAS and MaGIC offer 100 per cent subsidy for Sarawak startups who are eligible for the GMP programme.

He explained the programme, to be assisted by innovation and entrepreneurship platform TusStar, has been designed, taking inspiration from the paths and key success factors of highly successful Malaysian start-ups which have expanded abroad.

“GMP provides a platform for high growth innovative startups to explore cultures, understand ways of business and gain international market access in countries beyond ASEAN.

“We’re happy to collaborate with MaGIC and TusStar to support Sarawak startups to expand to China via the Virtual Global Market-Fit Programme.

“This programme will be our first partnership with MaGIC for the TEGAS Digital Village – in line with our mission to empower Sarawak startups to scale globally,” said Len Talif, who is also Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment.

He pointed out startups will learn from inspiring mentors and meet and gain access to international investors and route-to-market partners.

He added they are also required to commit to the online programme on a meeting schedule basis for the entire duration.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of MaGIC Amiruddin Abdul Shukor said MaGIC has always been supporting start-ups to go global.

“This programme will focus on start-ups meeting specific requirements – beyond TRL 6 or Series A above – to venture abroad.

“The pandemic impacted pre-existing plans by many start-ups to expand and scale-up. As they pivot to recover, GMP provides this unique platform for them to thrive,” he added.
