Five new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, 10 villages affected

KUCHING (June 28): Five new Covid-19 clusters have been declared in Sarawak today, most of them in rural villages, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee said.

It said in a statement that they were the Luteng Cluster in Telang Usan, Po Ai Cluster in Sri Aman, Blimbing Cluster in Bau, Simpang Koko Cluster in Sarikei and Jalan Semariang Cluster here.

The Luteng Cluster, it said, is a community cluster detected in a village under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

It said 69 people had been swabbed for Covid-19 and 44 of them had returned positive for Covid-19, including the index case. One sample was still pending laboratory results.

“The cluster had one fatality,” the committee said, adding that all those infected had been admitted at the Miri Hospital and the Covid-19 low-risk treatment and quarantine centre (PKRC).

The committee said the Po Ai Cluster, was a community cluster involving four long houses under EMCO with 103 positive cases and 51 people still waiting for their laboratory results after 330 people were swabbed.

The infected had been admitted to Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC.

The Simpang Koko cluster, which also involves four longhouses under EMCO, has 59 confirmed cases after 140 people were tested. The cluster also had one fatality.

All the patients from the cluster had been admitted to Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC.

SDMC said the Blimbing Cluster is a community cluster involving Kampung Blimbing in Krokong with 22 cases and seven still waiting their results after 47 people were swabbed.

The positive cases had been admitted at the Sarawak General Hospital, Bau Hospital and a PKRC in Bau.

The Jalan Semariang Cluster in Kuching, meanwhile, is a workplace cluster detected at a supermarket in Petra Jaya.

“A total of 176 samples were taken and 36 of them had come back positive for Covid-19, including the index case. Another 72 individuals were tested negative and 68 samples are still pending laboratory results,” SDMC said.

The patients are being treated at Sarawak General Hospital, Serian Hospital, and a Covid Assessment Centre (CAC) and a PKRC here.

The committee today also declared that the Jalan Rubber Cluster in Kuching had ended after no new cases were reported for the past 28 days. The cluster had 15 cases.

There are still 97 active clusters in the state, with 16 of them reporting 90 new cases today.

The clusters that reported new cases were Beladin Cluster in Pusa with one case; Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri Cluster, Bintulu (one); Jalan Samarakan Cluster, Tatau (two); Gran Stumbin Cluster, Sri Aman (two); Sawai Niah Cluster, Subis (four), Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster, Miri (three); Quadruplex Lapan Enam Cluster, Miri (eight); Kevok Cluster, Telang Usan (one); Sungai Long Seripa Cluster, Sebauh (four) and Nanga Tada Cluster, Kanowit (19).

Other clusters reporting new cases were Sungai Separai Cluster, Tatau (one); Jalan Kidurong Lima Cluster, Bintulu (three); Nyelutong Cluster, Betong (nine); Luteng Cluster, (nine); Simpang Koko Cluster (22) and Jalan Semariang Cluster (one).
