Chicken rice is perhaps one of the most popular lunch options for Malaysians.
A plate of rice with a portion of the nation’s favourite meat piled on top and maybe a few slices of cucumber on the side will satisfy most as a quick refuel option on a busy workday.
When it comes to chicken rice, roast chicken or steamed chicken are popular options. But a third option exists – Fatt Kee’s soy sauce chicken rice.
Fatt Kee is a stall located inside Restoran Wan Shoon in Damansara Kim, a small township located right next to TTDI, on the border of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
Like many other chicken rice stalls, Fatt Kee offers roast pork (siu yok) as well as barbecue pork (chasiu).
The star here is their soy sauce chicken, a version that’s a cross between steamed chicken and roast chicken and that somehow comes out enjoying the best of both worlds.
It’s flavourful, tender, and succulent all at the same time. The soy sauce blend here is addictively delicious, and the accompanying soup is just as lip-smacking.
Prices here are a little higher than usual, however. The portion mentioned above for two people came up to RM18, but well, sometimes it’s worth paying a little more for good food.
Another soya sauce chicken place worthy of mention is the one along Jalan Ipoh.
And for those who wish to give home-cooking a try, here’s a recipe for soya sauce chicken, although the end-result is a little different from what you’re probably used to.
