Sometimes all you need is a short getaway to escape the mundane routine.

Here are exciting activities to check out in Kuala Selangor that won’t break the bank:

1. Be enchanted by thousands of glowing fireflies at Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park

This place is definitely a must-visit! Kuala Selangor is known for its firefly sanctuary, which is home to one of the largest colonies of fireflies in the world. 

Cruise on a boat as it takes you through a mangrove, where you can admire thousands of fireflies sparkling along the banks of the Selangor River. It’s a truly magical sight.

2. Take cool photos at the reflective Sky Mirror, where you’ll get to stand right in the middle of the sea

A boat will take you into the deep sea, where you’ll come across a submerged piece of land that you can walk on. Some lucky visitors even managed to spot dolphins along the way!

Tour staff will set up a ‘stage’ where they will help you take fun photos with the ‘mirror’ of the ocean reflecting against the sky.

Wear clothes that are comfortable or that you don’t mind getting wet. Reviews recommend wearing bright coloured clothes if you want the photos to come out well.

3. Admire this breathtaking, natural night-time phenomenon known as ‘Blue Tears’ along Selangor River

‘Blue Tears’ is a natural phenomenon in Kuala Selangor, which is caused by Dinoflagellates, an algae or marine plankton that emits blue-green light at night.

A speedboat will take you along the river where you’ll sight bioluminescent displays in the water.

Visitors are allowed to stir the water with nets to make the blue patches more visible but are not allowed to bring any ‘Blue Tears’ back.

Bring mosquito repellent / spray and a camera with night mode or higher ISO values to capture the bioluminescence in the darkness.

4. Watch magnificent eagles swoop in for food all around you

A boat cruise will take you down a river, where about 20 to 40 eagles circle, waiting for food. 

Tour guides will toss chicken strips, so you can admire these magnificent creatures up close as they swoop in fast to grab the meat. It’s a fun activity for the whole family.

5. Get some fresh air and take a stroll at Kuala Selangor Nature Park

Nature enthusiasts, this one’s for you. Kuala Selangor Nature Park covers over 2.9km of coastal land, including a large mangrove swamp forest. 

There are four walking trails that anyone can do, even young children and the elderly:

1. Egret Trail (550m – 30 minutes)

2. Pangolin Trail (1km – 50 minutes)

3. Coastal Bund (1.7km – 2 hours)

4. Langur Trail (1.1km – 2.5 hours respectively)
