Education Department dismisses viral list of new teachers in S’wak as fake news

KUCHING (July 9): The state Education Department has dismissed a list that has gone viral on social media purporting to name 164 newly-appointed teachers and their assigned schools as false information.

State Education director Dr Norisah Suhaili slammed the viral posts as slander.

“Sarawak State Education Department strongly denies the false information that has been circulated on Facebook with regard to the list of new teacher appointments under Grade DG41 in Sarawak.

“The Facebook post has even linked the list to the one-off teacher recruitment advertisement put up by the Education Service Commission, which is false information,” she said in a brief statement today.

The list, which included names, MyKad numbers, and assigned schools, seemed to indicate inequality in terms of racial representation and was populated with mostly non-Sarawakians based on their identification card numbers.
