KOTA KINABALU: An administrative assistant was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving RM20,000 in bribe.
According to sources, the alleged bribe was from a company that managed boat work at a port here two years ago.
MACC Sabah director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the accused, in his 40s, was detained by MACC officers around 9am.
Karunanithy said the case is being investigated under Section 165 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
He added that the accused is expected to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu court today (July 9).
Meanwhile, a lorry driver was arrested by MACC for allegedly offering RM1,000 bribe to a police officer in Tawau.
According to sources, the accused attempted to bribe a law officer in return for the release of the man’s adopted brother who was detained by police for illegal gambling.
Karunanithy said the accused, in his 40s, was apprehended by MACC officers at the Tawau police station around 1am and the case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
