KOTA KINABALU: State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister, Shahelmey Yahya has urged the people not to delay in receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.
He also urged Sabahans, especially the elderly, to register themselves on the MySejahtera application to enable them to be notified of the appropriate schedule to receive the vaccine.
“Do not adopt the ‘wait and see’ attitude or only receiving the vaccine at the last minute as it will make it difficult to coordinate,” he said today.
Shahelmey added that the Covid-19 vaccine schedule will be divided into three phases whereby the third phase will mostly see up to 30,000 people vaccinated per day.
He said the Sabah National Immunisation Programme (NIP) will officially begin today (March 4) with Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor.
The first phase will be concentrated on frontliners until April and thereafter, followed by elderly people and those at high risk which includes those with diabetes and high blood pressure.
“Beginning of May, the general public from the age of 18 and above will be vaccinated and this program will continue until February 2022,” he said when met during the Projek Jiwa Murni event in conjunction with the Armed Forces’ 88th Anniversary celebration at Kampung Meruntum in Putatan, here today.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Army Fifth Infantry Division Commander, Major General Datuk Mohd Halim Khalid said he and other senior officers will also receive their Covid-19 vaccine as a start for the Sabah National Immunisation Programme for frontliners.
“We hope to complete the first phase of the vaccination in Kota Kinabalu and Kota Belud before moving to Sandakan, Tawau and other areas.
“We will continue this vaccination process throughout the state and if needed, we will assist the State Government to ensure the smooth process of the vaccination,” he said.
