Recently, a doctor at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur shared how an elderly patient made full recovery from COVID-19 despite having a weakened immune system due to his pre-existing health complications
Writing in a Facebook post yesterday, 17 August, Dr Mimi Nashra said the patient — who is in his 60s — suffers from hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
He is also an insulin-dependent diabetes patient.
But Mimi added that the patient is fully vaccinated. He completed his second dose of vaccination in June.

“Unfortunately, recently, he contracted [the] COVID-19 virus in [the] community,” continued Mimi
“He was admitted for a few days with lowest oxygen requirement, given lowest steroid dose as well as had short length of stay in the ward.”
“His saturation of oxygen under room air was 97% to 98%.”
Oxygen saturation values of 95% to 100% are generally considered normal.
“Today (17 August), he is discharged from [the] ward with a big smile! Goodbye, uncle! Stay safe!” she shared the good news before saying she is a “happy doctor”.

In the comments section of her post, many netizens cheered for the uncle’s recovery.
When asked which vaccine did the uncle take, Mimi said she is unsure.

The physician, who is currently stationed at the Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, said while fully vaccinated individuals might still get infected with the virus, these individuals tend to have strong resistance against the COVID-19 symptoms.
“Every eligible person should be vaccinated as vaccines provide a strong barrier against [the] COVID-19 virus,” Mimi told this SAYS writer.
“Yes, we may get infected even after being vaccinated, but from my experience, those who had completed two doses of vaccines only suffer mild symptoms and they recover much faster than those unvaccinated.”
“This is proven when the number of admissions is decreasing and we are seeing fewer elderly patients in our hospital as most have completed their vaccines.”
Hence, she urges those who are hesitant to get vaccinated to quickly register themselves for vaccination so that Malaysia can achieve herd immunity.
