KUCHING (Aug 16): Two villages in Serian have sparked two out of five new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
In its Covid-19 daily update today, SDMC said that Kampung Kakeng and Kampung Bunga Clusters are both community clusters which were declared after some residents from the two villages tested positive recently.
“The Kampung Kakeng Cluster saw 94 people screened with 61 testing positive while the Kampung Bunga Cluster saw 58 people screened with 26 testing positive,” it said.
The other three clusters are the Kampung Goebilt Cluster in Kuching, Lorong Temenggung Haji Gobil Cluster in Kuching and the Jalan Airport Lama Cluster in Bintulu.
“A total of 151 people were screened from the Kampung Goebilt Cluster, with 54 testing positive, while the Lorong Temenggung Haji Gobil Cluster saw 60 people screened with 29 returning positive,” SDMC said.
The Jalan Airport Lama Cluster is a workplace cluster with 31 people screened and 12 testing positive. It involves employees of a financial centre located at Jalan Airport Lama, Paragon Bintulu, said the committee.
SDMC also declared an end to the Jalan Jambusan 2 Cluster in Bau after no new cases were reported from this cluster in the last 28 days.
There are currently 107 active clusters in the state, with 19 recording new cases.
The Sega Cluster in Bau recorded 94 new cases, followed by the Kampung Quop Cluster in Kuching (57), Kampung Bungey 2 Cluster in Betong (43), Kampung Git Cluster in Kuching (35), Mega Suai Cluster in Subis (24) and the Jalan Airport Lama Cluster in Bintulu (10).
Other clusters recording single-digit cases are the Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster, Kuching (9), Kampung Pulo Ulu Cluster, Kuching (8), Kampung Pandan Cluster, Lundu (7), Lubuk Bukut Cluster, Mukah (4), Jalan Buan Cluster, Tatau (4), Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster, Kuching(3), Sessang Cluster, Kabong (3) and the Braang Payang Cluster, Kuching (3).
Clusters which recorded less than three cases on the other hand are the Kampung Kendaie Cluster, Lundu (2), Kandis Pantu Cluster, Sri Aman (2), Sungai Menok Cluster, Beluru (2), Kampung Bintawa Ulu, Kuching (1) and the Bandar Riyal Cluster, Samarahan (1).
Meanwhile, the districts of Song and Pusa are now classified as Covid-19 orange zone districts after recording 32 and 22 locally transmitted cases respectively in the past 14 days.
Both districts were previously classified as yellow zones.
Sarawak now has 20 districts classified as red zones, orange (6) and yellow (9) while five districts remain as green zones.
The Health Ministry categorises a district with no Covid-19 cases as a green zone, and over a two-week period, with one to 20 local transmission cases as yellow, 21 to 40 as orange and 41 and more as red.
