Covid-19 situation in Selangor under control, says MB

The number of new cases are high in the state because of more tests taking place at worksite clusters, says Selangor menteri besar.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has assured that the Covid-19 crisis in Selangor was under control, hours after the state recorded a high number of infections today.

Amirudin said the surge of new cases was due to screenings for foreign workers, as well as targeted screening programmes being carried out by employers and government agencies.

“We must continue to comply with the SOPs and practice self-discipline to break the chain of infections,” he said in a tweet.

The health ministry reported a record high of 2,234 Covid-19 cases today, 1,428 of which were from Selangor. The previous record high was 2,188 infections nationwide on Nov 24.

Most of the cases in the state were from the Seruling workplace cluster, which detected 842 cases. Another 315 came from the Hentian cluster involving Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan.

The Jalan Bukit construction site cluster was also identified in the state today. The index case tested positive after exhibiting symptoms on Dec 2 and workplace screenings found another 46 positive cases.
