Covid-19: Sarawak records 201 new cases, no deaths today

KUCHING (March 7): Sarawak recorded 201 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 11,096 cases, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

No deaths were reported in the state today, maintaining the death toll at 87.

As for today’s new cases, Sibu once again topped the list with 75, followed by Kapit (37), Bau (18), Miri (16), Kuching (12), Betong (9), Bintulu (8), Sri Aman (8), Serian (7), Selangau (3), Julau (2), Lundu (2), Meradong (1), Pusa (1), Samarahan (1) and Sarikei (1).

Out of the 75 new cases in Sibu District, 42 involved the newly declared Jalan Awang Cluster and two more from another new cluster known as Kiba Cluster.

Two more new cases in Sibu were detected from screening of healthcare workers and they were also asymptomatic, while two cases were from screenings of individuals with symptoms.

In Kapit, 19 cases involved the Gelong Cluster and18 more were detected through active case detection (ACD).

All the 18 cases in Bau district were detected through ACD.

In Miri, 13 cases were detected through ACD, one case was from voluntary screening, one case involving a healthcare worker and another was a symptomatic patient.

Six of the new cases in Kuching were from the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, three from voluntary screening, one from Ho Pin Cluster, one detected through ACD and one was classified as Import B (imported case from another state) involving a Sarawakian coming back from Selangor.

In Betong, nine cases involved the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster, and another case was detected through ACD.

All the eight new cases in Sri Aman were detected through ACD.

In Bintulu, five of the cases were detected through ACD, two from voluntary screenings and one was classified as Import B case involving a Sarawakian returning from Johor.

Six of the new cases in Serian were detected through ACD and another involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster.

In Selangau, all three cases were detected through ACD while the two new cases in Julau involved the Bukit Tunggal Cluster.

One of the two new cases in Lundu was detected through ACD while another was from voluntary screening.

The solitary new case in Samarahan was from voluntary screening, while the new cases in Pusa and Sarikei were detected through ACD

In Meradong, the case was detected from voluntary screening but classified as Import C (imported from another district) since the patient was infected in Sibu.

As of today, 2,377 active cases are being treated in hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).

A total 892 are in the Sibu Hospital and PKRC, 341 in Bintulu Hospital and PKRC, 308 in Miri Hospital and PKRC, 299 in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Kuching PKRC, 209 in Betong Hospital and PKRC, 170 in Kapit Hospital and PKRC , 137 in Sarikei Hospital and PKRC and 21 Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC.

SDMC also reported 196 cases have recovered and were discharged today, making it a total of 8,595 recovery cases or 77.46 per cent out of the cumulative cases of 11,096 in Sarawak to date.

The recovery cases are from Sibu Hospital with 118, Bintulu Hospital (22), Sarikei Hospital (22), SGH (19), Kapit PKRC (10) and Miri Hospital (5).

SDMC also recorded 203 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases where three were still waiting for their lab test results.

At the same time, the committee also recorded 409 person-under-surveillance (PUS) cases today, making it a total of 6,287 of them to date being quarantined in 91 hotels and other accommodations across the state.
