KUCHING (June 24): Sarawak today recorded 581 new cases with Sibu reporting the highest number of infections at 85 cases, said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
In its daily update, SDMC said the state had no new pandemic fatality with the death toll remains unchanged at 392.
It said the new cases brought the state’s infection tally to 62,147 cases.
SDMC said 301 cases or 51.81 per cent of the new cases were detected in Sibu, Sri Aman, Kuching, Tatau and Bintulu.
While Sibu topped the list of new cases, Sri Aman came second with 63 cases followed by Kuching (58), Tatau (49), Bintulu (46), Miri (39), Saratok (26), Meradong (24), Mukah (20), Asajaya (20), Kanowit (19), Tebedu (17), Lundu (16), Kapit (16), Samarahan (13), Sarikei (11) and Matu (10).
Other districts that reported single-digit cases were Bau (8), Telang Usan (7), Song (7), Kabong (5), Julau (4), Sebauh (3), Serian (3), Marudi (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Betong (2), Simunjan (1), Selangau (1) Subis (1) and Dalat (1).
SDMC said 50 individuals from the new cases had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 when their swab tests were taken.
The committee added that 150 cases were linked to the existing active Covid-19 clusters, and all of them were asymptomatic.
Three of the new cases were imported cases from other states in the country while one was imported from Indonesia.
All these imported cases were asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, SDMC said Sarawak today recorded 455 new recovery and discharged cases.
This brought the state’s cumulative number of recovery and discharged cases to 51,224 or 82.42 per cent of the total infections.
A total of 10,387 individuals are currently being treated or isolated at various hospital wards and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).
SDMC added that 581 persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported today.
