Covid-19: Four fatalities in Sarawak today with 544 new infections

KUCHING (June 1): Sarawak recorded 544 new Covid-19 cases today along with four fatalities, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The committee said in its Covid-19 daily update that the latest cases brought the cumulate number of infections to 65,395 while the death toll now stood at 413.

It added that 338 or 62.13 per cent of today’s cases were detected in Kuching, Tebedu, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 118, followed by Tebedu (63), Sibu (58), Bintulu (56), Miri (43), Song (41), Telang Usan (21), Serian (17), Bau (15), Kanowit (15), Samarahan (15), Marudi (11), Kapit (11) and Subis (10).”

“Other districts which recorded new cases were Sri Aman (7), Tatau (6), Tanjung Manis (6), Mukah (5), Asajaya (4), Simunjan (3), Meradong (3), Saratok (3), Lundu (2), Sarikei (2), Bukit Mabong (2), Sebauh (2), and one each in Belaga, Matu, Lawas, Julau and Betong,” it said.

The committee said the new cases consisted of 74 individuals who had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection when screenings were conducted while 464 cases detected from individuals who were instructed to be quarantined at quarantine centres.

It also gave a summary of the cases, noting that 334 were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 125 cases from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 52 cases from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities; 28 from other screenings at health facilities, three cases involving individuals who had returned from other states, and two Import A case involving individuals who had returned from Indonesia.
