KUCHING (June 25): Sarawak today recorded four Covid-19 fatalities along with 673 new cases, with Sibu reporting the most number of cases at 122.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in its daily update that this brought the state’s death toll to 396 and the cumulative tally of cases to 62,820.
The new fatalities were recorded in Kapit, Kuching, Miri and Subis.
The 393rd fatality involved a 39-year-old woman who tested positive on June 24 and her body was taken to the Kapit Hospital. She had cancer.
The 394th fatality involved an 80-year-old man who tested positive on June 7 and later passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital. He had comorbidities of hypertension, dyslipidemia and heart disease.
The 395th fatality involved a 66-year-old man who tested positive on June 20 and his body was taken to the Borneo Medical Centre in Miri. He had hypertension.
The 396th fatality involved a 54-year-old man who tested positive on June 18 and his body was taken to the Miri Hospital. The case who hailed from Subis had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and gout.
As for the new cases, SDMC said 423 cases or 62.85 per cent were detected in Sibu, Kuching, Kanowit, Bintulu and Sarikei.
Kuching came after Sibu with 109 cases followed by Kanowit (84), Bintulu (57), Sarikei (51), Tebedu (37), Telang Usan (31), Mukah (20), Bau (18), Miri (18), Sri Aman (13), Tatau (13) and Saratok (11).
Other districts that reported single-digit cases were Kapit (8), Subis (8), Sebauh (8), Pakan (8), Bukit Mabong (8), Asajaya (7), Kabong (7), Samarahan (6), Serian (5), Matu (5), Song (5), Dalat (4), Lawas (3), Selangau (2), Lubok Antu (2), Julau (1), Betong (1) and Tanjung Manis (1).
SDMC said 76 of the total new cases today had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during when their swab tests were taken.
It said Sarawak reported 565 new recovery and discharged cases today, bringing the cumulative number of such cases to 51,793 or 82.45 per cent of the total infections.
A total of 10,486 individuals are still being treated and isolated at the various hospital wards and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).
SDMC added that the state also had 676 persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases.
