KUCHING (June 12): The Catholic Church in Sarawak shows its support for the fight against Covid-19 by donating personal protective equipment (PPE) to medical frontliners.
According to Kuching Catholic Archbishop Most Revd Simon Poh in a press statement, an appeal was made during live-streamed Sunday Masses for PPE SMS Isolation gowns and KN95 Facemask for medical use in hospitals.
With funds collected from Catholics and friends in Sarawak, Malaysia and overseas, 10,000 pieces of KN95 facemasks and 6,200 pieces of SMS Isolation medical gowns were procured and packed into 76 cartons.
Poh handed over the contribution to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee advisor Dato Sim Kui Hian and SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Ung yesterday. He thanked Alan Tay and Kevin Chin who helped to transport the cartons.
Together with Bishop Joseph Hii of Sibu and Bishop Richard Ng of Miri, the Catholic Church offered the contribution as a gesture of support and prayer for the safety of medical frontliners serving in Sarawak during this pandemic.
“May God protect and bless you and your family as you serve our community in Sarawak,” said Poh.
Meanwhile, Poh who is also chairman of Association of Churches in Sarawak appealed for public blood donation to save lives.
