Bintulu MP Service Centre delivers test kits to Health Department, more to come

The coronavirus test kits arriving in Bintulu.

BINTULU (June 12): More than 25,000 units of Coronavirus test kits were delivered to the Health Department in Bintulu, Thursday afternoon.

The kits were procured through funds raised by the Bintulu MP Service Centre which has acquired another batch of test kits to be delivered next week.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who announced the delivery on Thursday night said the medical kits and reagents delivered was worth about RM1 million.

“A fundraising charity initiated by the Bintulu MP Service Centre to buy medical supplies to bolster the Covid-19 prevention efforts in Bintulu has been met with contributions from many people from all walks of life.

“More than 25,000 units of coronavirus test kits have been successfully delivered to Bintulu this afternoon. Another batch of reagents is also being sent to Bintulu Health Department to bolster their frontline work,” Tiong said in a statement.

He pointed out that in order for to flatten the pandemic curve here as soon as possible, the Health Department has had to carry out mass testing of the Covid-19 virus in the past few months.

Tiong added to carry out mass swab testing the daily use of reagents is very high and the stock in Bintulu’s reagent inventory must be constantly replenished.

“Therefore, with the assistance of many parties, we are trying to ship the first batch of new reagents to Bintulu in the shortest possible time and the rest of the stock will arrive next week,” Tiong said.

The Bintulu MP thanked AirAsia which despite its reduced flight frequency during this pandemic, is assisting to bring in the relevant supplies to Bintulu as soon as possible.

He also thanked the suppliers for delivering the medical supplies although the Bintulu MP Service Centre has not fully paid for the items.

“Even though all payments have not been completed fully, the supplier is willing to place the people as a priority to receive these supplies and bolster the ant-pandemic efforts.

“This has been a difficult process but I believe that having the full support of so many people will be a great boost to the morale of the frontliners,” Tiong said.
