SIBU (June 22): Bintulu marine police have seized about 1,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM2,150 and a three-tonne lorry worth about RM50,000 during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Contra’ at Jalan Persisir Bintulu-Kuala Tatau at around 1.30pm yesterday.

Region 5 Marine Police commanding officer ASP Ezuandi Bahadin said a 50-year-old local man, who was the driver of the lorry carrying a tank, was also detained during the operation.

“Upon inspection, the lorry driver failed to produce any valid documents on the ownership of the controlled items,” he said in a media statement today.

He said the case will be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possessing and keeping of controlled items without a valid permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

He said both the seized diesel and lorry were handed over to KPDNHEP for further action.
