SEBERANG PERAI: Living on only RM500 a month and waking up at 6am every day to care for animals, Bee Nazwin is jobless but volunteers as Seberang Perai’s full-time stray feeder.
Through online donations from his Facebook followers, Nazwin buys fresh food and spends the day travelling to 17 different locations in Seberang Perai to feed the hungry bellies of over 100 animals.
This humble man dreams of fencing up an open area and having the resources ready to spay strays to prevent overpopulation. Ultimately, Nazwin only wants the animals to roam freely but safely, away from the dangers that come from scavenging for food in coffee shops and speeding traffic.
After his contract as a security guard at a school ended last December, 44-year-old Bee Nazwin decided to selflessly commit all his hours to saving the strays of Seberang Perai.
With over 100 animals comprising dogs, cats and even birds under his care, Nazwin lives on pension funds and gets by with as little as RM500 a month.
Nazwin wakes up at 6am every day to prepare packs of cooked rice and buys fresh produce at the market using monetary donations from his Facebook supporters.
Providing only the freshest of food to his furry friends, Nazwin also purchases RM25 worth of chicken and RM35 of fish from his suppliers to cover a single day of feeding.
With his motorcycle trunk filled with goodies, Nazwin travels to 17 different feeding spots from 6am to 5pm and stops only at 12pm to eat lunch at his mother’s house.
Gaining nothing in return besides meows and barks of appreciation, Nazwin has been called crazy for doing this.
Greeting animals with loving pats and leaving behind plenty of food, Nazwin live streams everything to his Facebook so supporters know whose hungry bellies their donations are feeding.
Nazwin believes animals deserve a variety of food, just like humans.
Nazwin meets a half-blind cat which he named Si Buta every day and wishes to bring him home, but decides against it as he already has too many animals at home.
Going to the nooks and crannies of Seberang Perai, Nazwin finds himself in all sorts of places.
Nazwin may be the only human at these spots, but he finds comfort in the company of his furry friends.
Fish isn’t just for felines; this dog has a sweet spot for seafood.
Although dogs are frequently labelled as “unclean”, Nazwin cares for them and believes they are as worthy of love as cats are.
Nazwin hopes for a future where strays can safely call the streets their home, and promises to continue saving them – one furry belly at a time.
Whizzing past a signboard that he holds close to his heart, Nazwin wants to spread more awareness of its message against animal cruelty.
