SIBU (Mar 4): Barbed wire fencing have been installed at all seven blocks of Sibujaya flats ahead of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) which will come into force starting midnight tonight.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said six policemen together with 30 army and 22 Rela personnel will also be deployed to guard the seven blocks.

“We are also setting up roadblocks and checkpoints at the entrances of the flats. The lockdown will begin at midnight tonight,” he said when contacted.

Yesterday, Sarawak Disaster Management Commitee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced the EMCO for Sibujaya flats and Townvilla housing will end today except for seven blocks of flats.

He said the government had decided to extend the EMCO for Blocks C, H, J, K, L, N and R from March 5 to 11.

The flats and Townvilla housing were placed under EMCO from Feb 12 to 25 following a surge in Covid-19 cases in the two localities.

The restrictions on the localities were later extended from Feb 26 to March 4.

Residents of the affected blocks were not allowed to leave their flats throughout the lockdown period in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) released by the National Security Council.

“No guests or visitors from outside are allowed to go into the EMCO area,” the SOP read.

“Movement for emergency cases like sickness and death are allowed but the residents must submit their application to the police.

“Family representative can contact Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee or EMCO Operation Room for the purpose.”
