Backing Anwar? Not me, declares Bung Moktar

Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin (left) said it was irresponsible of people to spread news that he was backing PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

KOTA KINABALU: Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin says he has never supported Anwar Ibrahim amid claims that he was among 10 Umno MPs who had signed statutory declarations (SD) backing the PKR president.

Earlier today, Astro Awani, in a report citing sources, named Bung as among the supporters, alongside former prime minister Najib Razak and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The report said these SDs would be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

In a statement, Bung described these claims as “irresponsible” as he had already denied them.

“I said last month that I have never given my support to any (other) party. What is important is that we as individuals have never supported anyone, including Anwar, to lead the nation.”

The Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman called for an end to such speculation.

He also said if Anwar was sure he had enough support and the SDs, he should seek an audience with the King.

“If you are confident, bring the SDs to the Agong. Don’t seek an audience empty-handed.”

Previously, Anwar had also claimed he had secured the support of enough MPs for a convincing majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

But after an audience with Sultan Abdullah, Istana Negara revealed that Anwar had not presented any list of the MPs who supported him.
