Authorities prepare for EMCO at Phase 2 of Sentosa Resettlement Scheme in Sibu

Tents and other equipment are being set up at one of the police roadblocks at the Sentosa traffic light junction.

SIBU (Feb 26): Preparations are now complete for Phase 2 of the Sentosa Resettlement Scheme here which will be placed under the Enhancement Movement Control Order (EMCO) set to take effect from tomorrow (Feb 27) until March 12.

During an observation at one of the locations for the roadblock by The Borneo Post, workers were seen erecting tents while police and Rela personnel assisted with traffic control at Lorong Sentosa Timur 3.

Last night, Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) stated that the EMCO will be enforced in Phase 2 of Sentosa Resettlement Scheme here from 12.01am Feb 27 up to 11.59pm, March 12.

SDDMC had pointed out that the decision to impose the EMCO with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) approval was due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in the area.

Phase 2 of the Sentosa Resettlement Scheme covers Jalan Sentosa, Jalan Sentosa Timur and Lorong Sentosa Utara 7.

When contacted earlier today, Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said roadblocks would be mounted in two locations; one at the junction of the Jalan Sentosa/Salim (near the football pitch) and another at the Sentosa traffic light junction.

He added that two roads would be closed and guarded by the army at the junctions of Jalan Bukit Lima/Sentosa and Lorong 7, Jalan Sentosa.

The Welfare Department will provide rations for residents in the area.

Stanley advised residents in the EMCO’s area to stay at home and not to leave their house compounds.

“KKM (Ministry of Health) will also be conducting swab tests in the area.

“No one allowed to leave or enter EMCO area, even government servants.

“Students sitting for exams are advised to liaise with their respective schools so that arrangements can be made with the PPD (District Education Office),” he said, adding that KKM will assist with providing a mobile clinic on standby behind SK Sentosa.

Additionally, he said those experiencing welfare problems or deaths are urged to inform those on duty at the roadblocks.

“Those residing at Lorong 7 Sentosa (about 6 houses not in lockdown area) OCS (officer-in-charge of Police Station) Lanang with Councillor Nazatusyima Bujang will issue special passes,” he informed.
