PETALING JAYA: Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said today the party was not established to be a walaun (fanatical follower) of anyone.

“I know Amanah leaders are those most committed to Pakatan Harapan (PH). But we don’t want to be anyone’s walaun.

“I am not (Amanah president) Mohamad Sabu’s walaun. We are not Tun’s (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and (PKR president) Anwar Ibrahim’s walaun,” he said at the Amanah Youth convention in Melaka.

He also sought to assure everyone that there was no intention to sideline Anwar. This comes amid speculation that Anwar may be forced to step down as opposition leader.

“We have no intention of sidelining Anwar, as we have been accused of recently. This is our official party stand,” he said.

Salahuddin said the party’s current goal was to replace the Perikatan Nasional government, which he described as an “undignified government”.

He urged PH to stand firm and overthrow the “backdoor government that betrayed the people’s mandate”.
