KOTA KINABALU: AirAsia has launched its food delivery and grocery shopping services in the state.
The expansion of AirAsia Food and AirAsia Fresh is set to boost the recovery of the local economy by creating more job opportunities, enabling local businesses to earn more and offering consumers better value for their money.
It is understood that AirAsia will only be charging the merchants a commission rate of 15 per cent for its AirAsia Food services and five per cent for its AirAsia Fresh services.
On top of that, AirAsia Food will also be offering free meals from July 1 to 6, while the first 500 customers for AirAsia Fresh will receive RM10 off with this promo code: AADELIVERSKK.
The services were launched by State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun during an online ceremony, which was also attended by AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.
Tony pointed out that Sabah had always been a popular market for AirAsia.
He said that the launch will create more employment opportunities and it will also bring significant benefits to farmers, suppliers and businesses.
“In the larger context, launching AirAsia Fresh in Kota Kinabalu complements our bigger agri and logistics project for Sabah through AirAsia Farm – our B2B platform connecting farmers directly to businesses, providing an ideal ecosystem in terms of supply chain and distribution for fresh produce within Sabah and for export.
“On that note, I am pleased to confirm that we will soon have a 6,000 square feet warehouse by AirAsia Farm up and running in Kota Kinabalu, serving as a 3-in-1 Agri Centre with cold chain facility, office space and a dedicated training area that will benefit local farmers and SMEs in Sabah to upskill and transform in the digital era,” added Tony.
Meanwhile, Masidi said that the initiative is in line with Sabah’s policy to “go big” on e-commerce and digitalisation.
“I would like to thank Tan Sri (Tony) for being a good friend to Sabah,” he added.
Masidi opined that the pandemic has changed the lifestyle of many people as they are required to stay at home more and therefore, there is a need to restructure how they go about their lives.
In view of this, this e-commerce platform by AirAsia would be beneficial for Sabahans.
According to the Head of e-commerce for AirAsia Super App, Lim Ben-Jie, the current Internet penetration in the state capital could reach up to 91.4 per cent.
“It is only apt for us to introduce AirAsia Food and AirAsia Fresh to Kota Kinabalu as a compelling e-commerce shopping and delivery service for consumers,” he said.
“We are pleased to offer merchants our zero listing fee policy as well as lowest commission rate of only 15% on AirAsia food and 5% on AirAsia Fresh. We are currently hiring local drivers and delivery agents to join us painting Kota Kinabalu red with our AirAsia delivery squad,” added Ben-Jie.
A total of 72 restaurants and over 20 stores have registered for the AirAsia Food and Fresh services in Kota Kinabalu.
Other interested restaurants and F&B merchants may register for the services by contacting AirAsia.
