KUCHING (Aug 22): It is hoped that Sarawak will be well represented in the new federal cabinet to be announced soon, says Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Abdullah Saidol.
He congratulated Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for his appointment as the ninth Prime Minister of Malaysia, and called on everyone to give him the time and space to perform as the head of the government.
“I hope he does better and stays longer (than his predecessor).
“Let him settle down first and give him space to revisit, revalue, and where necessary and appropriate, to restructure a workable and efficient administrative plan especially to ease the pandemic pressure on the people and to quickly implement economic recovery plan.
“Our nation political crisis has inflicted so much injury on our economy.
Quick thinking, planning and action are very desired by all,” said Abdullah in a statement yesterday.
Ismail, who is also Bera MP, was appointed to the top post after receiving the majority of support through statutory declarations (SDs) submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
He was reported to receive nominations from 114 MPs out the 220 including 18 from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
He takes over from Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who resigned on Aug16 after 17 months in office.
On another matter, Abdullah said Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) failure to secure the prime minister’s post was solely due to DAP’s ‘rough, unscrupulous and rude’ political behaviour and treatment.
He said this had caused most other political parties to be reluctant or absolutely refuse to associate with PH.
He said the majority of Malaysians were also disgusted and ashamed after watching the rowdy and unethical behaviour of most PH leaders when presenting themselves during Parliamentary sittings.
“Lesson to be learned from all this is that, please be wise when exercising our voting right, elect a leader who is sincere and passionate about serving the people and the country.
“Avoid electing those who are only concerned about their own self-interest and political power including those who only look and sound good with their ‘mouth’ but weak in administrative skill.
“We the people must also not be too quick to believe all those ‘sweet rhetoric and unrealistic promises’ made by clueless politician who has his mouth faster than his brain merely for the sake of securing political popularity,” he said.
He also criticised Selangau MP Baru Bian for recently alleging GPS of being politically hypocrite following the appointment of Ismail, who is also Umno vice president, as the new prime minister.
He said Baru himself, who quit from PKR and later joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), also questioned ‘principles’ in GPS ideology.
“PSB association with DAP and PH, is that not a ‘u-turn’ in PSB’s principles?
“PSB initially has no representation in Parliament, PSB’s representatives in Parliament were all originally from PH coalition but later ‘jumped ship’ into PSB.
“He (Baru Bian) should keep quite and avoid making comment about the political squabble in federal but instead should mirror himself and have the decency to admit that he didn’t do much for Sarawakians when he was works minister,” he said.
