6 new Covid-19 clusters detected, 3 in Klang Valley

They are the Sungai Putus, Erima, Jalan Berangan construction site, Langkasuka, Jalan College and Sungai Keluang clusters.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected six new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a statement today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are known as the Sungai Putus and Erima clusters in Selangor, Jalan Berangan construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Langkasuka cluster in Johor, Sungai Keluang cluster in Penang, and Jalan College cluster involving Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

The index case for the Sungai Putus cluster affecting Klang, Selangor, was a factory worker who tested positive after workplace screenings on Dec 9. There were 2,001 people who have been screened, of whom 427 have tested positive so far.

The Erima cluster in Gombak, Selangor, was detected after an individual tested positive during screenings on Dec 7. Workplace screenings carried out by the company found 28 more positive cases, all of whom were in close contact with the index case. A total of 83 have been screened in the cluster.

Meanwhile, positive cases from the Jalan Berangan construction site cluster involving Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur were detected during workplace screenings carried out from Dec 9. Overall, 1,246 individuals have been screened, of which six have tested positive.

The Langkasuka cluster is active in Kulai and Johor Bahru in Johor. Noor Hisham said the index case was reported after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings on Dec 5. Since then, 113 people have been screened with 14 testing positive.

The index case of the Jalan College cluster in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan and Petaling, Selangor, was detected after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings on Dec 3. A total of 35 people have been screened, with 11 testing positive.

The Sungai Keluang cluster in Penang is active in the northeast and southwest districts of the island, as well as north and south Seberang Perai. The index case was detected on Dec 5, and contact tracing detected 16 other cases. A total of 99 people have been screened in the cluster.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said there were three clusters that ended today. These were the Taman Laut cluster in Selangor, BMU cluster in Melaka and the Ikhtisas cluster in Selangor, Kelantan dan Negeri Sembilan.

This brings the total number of active clusters being monitored nationwide to 190.

Noor Hisham added the clusters reporting the highest number of new cases in the last 24 hours were the Sungai Putus cluster (369 cases), the Rumah Merah cluster (150) and the D’Bajaru cluster (133).
