5 new Covid-19 clusters detected

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a statement this evening, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said one cluster was from Selangor, two from Kuala Lumpur and two from Johor.

These are the Jalan Bukit construction site cluster in Selangor; the Condong construction site and the Jalan Stadium construction site clusters in Kuala Lumpur; and the Jalan Dalam and Tenun Merah clusters from Johor.

The index case for the Jalan Bukit construction site cluster affecting Hulu Langat, Selangor was a worker who tested positive after showing symptoms on Dec 2.

Following that, workplace screenings carried out by the employer found another 46 positive cases. As at Dec 10, 109 individuals have been screened.

Meanwhile, positive cases from the Condong construction site cluster involving Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur were detected during workplace screenings carried out from Dec 6.

There were 291 individuals screened, of which 15 have tested positive so far.

On the Jalan Stadium construction site cluster involving Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, Noor Hisham said positive cases have been reported since Dec 4 during targeted screenings at the construction site.

So far, 97 people were screened. There are currently 15 positive cases from the cluster.

On the clusters in Johor, he said the Jalan Dalam cluster involving Kulai, Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru was first detected after an individual tested positive during symptomatic screenings on Dec 7. Since then, 108 people have been screened with 13 testing positive.

The Tenun Merah cluster involving Batu Pahat meanwhile has a total of 23 positive cases from screenings involving 287 people.

It was first detected on Dec 7 after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said there were three clusters that ended today. These were the Merbok cluster in Selangor, and the Lintas and Telipok clusters in Sabah.

This brings the total number of active clusters being monitored nationwide to 187.

Noor Hisham added the clusters reporting the highest number of new cases in the last 24 hours were the Seruling cluster (843 cases), the Hentian cluster (315) and the Tembok cluster (104).
