KUCHING (July 8): New Covid-19 cases in Sarawak continued to hover just below the 300 mark for the third day in a row with 281 cases reported today.
In a Facebook post, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest figure was a slight drop of eight cases from yesterday’s 289, placing Sarawak in seventh place among states and territories reporting new cases.
On Tuesday, the state reported 286 new cases.
Today’s new cases brought Sarawak’s cumulative number of cases to 67,841.
Nationwide, a total of 8,868 new cases were reported today — the second highest since 9,020 cases were recorded on May 29.
Selangor alone accounted for nearly half of today’s figure with 4,152 new cases, while Kuala Lumpur also recorded four-digit cases at 1,133.
Reporting three-digit new cases were Negeri Sembilan (897), Perak (543), Kedah (360), Johor (336), Sabah (279), Penang (237), Melaka (183), Pahang (152), and Kelantan (135).
Those that reported fewer than 100 new daily cases were Terengganu (68), Labuan (64), Putrajaya (47), and Perlis (1).
The cumulative total of Covid-19 positive cases in the country has now surpassed the 800,000 mark at 808,658.
