KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 273 new positive Covid-19 cases and one death in Beaufort on Monday, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.

No new cluster was reported.

Masidi, who is also Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesperson, said Kota Kinabalu recorded 86 new cases, followed by Tawau (43), Kudat (41), Sandakan (23), Beaufort (17) and Penampang (13).

He said Papar, Semporna, Kalabakan, Tuaran, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Kota Belud, Nabawan, Kinabatangan, Telupid, Sipitang and Keningau recorded single digit rise in new infections.

He said four clusters contributed 57 out of the 86 cases reported in Kota Kinabalu, 29 of which were dominated by the Ocean Blue Cluster which has raked up 157 cumulative cases to date.

Meanwhile, Masidi said 390 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals or recovered.

He said a total of 2,044 patients were still undergoing treatment, including 527 in hospitals and 1,517 in Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres.

“There are 96 patients still in intensive care unit and 39 require ventilators.”

On another note, Masidi said the State Government would tighten its control on Sabah waters to curb smuggling from Labuan.

He said the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency and marine police would beef up their assets for this purpose.
