263 new cases, new clusters

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 263 new positive Covid-19 cases and two clusters on Monday.

The two new clusters are Jalan Kayu Madang Cluster and Lorong Berjaya Cluster.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu reported the highest daily increase with 89 cases.

He said 15 of the new infections in the state capital were detected from cluster screenings, namely Jalan Kayu Madang Cluster (5), Lorong Berjaya Cluster (1), Muhibbah Manggatal Cluster (5), Bahtera Barat Cluster (3) and Ocean Blue Cluster (1).

Targeted screening at Pulau Gaya contributed 58 cases in Kota Kinabalu, close contact screening (10), symptomatic screening (5) and one from other screening, he said.

Apart from Kota Kinabalu, Kudat registered 37 cases, followed by Tawau (34), Beaufort (21), Putatan (17), Kota Belud (14) and Sandakan (11).

Masidi, who is Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson, said the Jalan Kayu Madang Cluster in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran involved the spread of Covid-19 among workers at C&F Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) South.

He said the index case, a 31-year-old woman who works as a quality control officer at the company was tested positive for Covid-19 on June 30 after experiencing fever and loss of taste three days ago.

He said 177 samples have been collected among her close contacts, 11 cases of which, including five new infections, were registered in Kota Kinabalu and the remaining seven in Tuaran.

The cluster has reported 18 cumulative cases to date.

He said 145 samples came out negative and 22 were still pending results.

Meanwhile, Masidi said the Lorong Berjaya Cluster involved Covid-19 transmission among employees at the business premises and quarters of Jetsin Sdn Bhd at Bandaran Berjaya.

The index case is a 25-year-old man who works as a customer service staff who tested positive on June 30.

He said 104 samples have been taken, eight of which were positive, including one new case recorded on Monday, 14 were negative and 82 pending results.

Meanwhile, Masidi said 232 patients have been discharged from hospital or recovered from Covid-19.

He said 1,714 patients were still undergoing treatment, including 403 in hospitals, 1,151 at Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres and 160 in temporary detention centre or prison.
