260 new Covid-19 cases in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 260 new positive Covid-19 cases, zero deaths, and 274 recoveries today, said Local Government and Housing minister and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“According to the report from Sabah State Health Department, the number of new Covid-19 positive cases in the state today is 260, bringing the cumulative total to 34,083 cases. No deaths have been reported,” he said.

“Today a total of 274 Covid-19 patients have been discharged or recovered from the hospital, bringing the cumulative recovery total to 31,279. So far, a total of 2,048 patients are receiving treatment, namely 615 people in the hospital and 1,433 in PKRC (Covid Quarantine and Treatment Centre).

“The number of Covid-19 patients in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is 61 and 17 people require ventilators,” said Masidi, the official Sabah Covid-19 Spokesperson, here today.

Masidi said Lahad Datu recorded 54 Covid-19 positive cases, the highest number in Sabah yesterday, followed by Sandakan (49), Kota Kinabalu (42), Tawau (30), Tuaran (24), Penampang (20), Papar (nine), Putatan (eight), Kota Belud (six), Semporna (five), Kudat (three), Tenom (two), Ranau (two), Kinabatangan (two), Kalabakan (two), and Keningau (two).

He said no cases were found in Pitas, Beluran, Beaufort, Tongod, Kunak, Kuala Penyu, Telupid, Sipitang, Tambunan, Kota Marudu and Nabawan, while Kalabakan has become an orange zone.

“There is one new cluster reported in Penampang District, namely Sugud Cluster which recorded five cases today that makes the cumulative to 26 cases. The cluster is caused by social activity involving three villages namely Kampung Timpangoh, Kg Tirig and Kg Timpayasa.

“Of the 260 Covid-19 positive cases, a total of 135 cases (51.9%) were from close contact screening, 49 cases (18.8%) from symptomatic screening and from existing cluster screening 47 cases (18.1%), eight cases (3.1%) from pre-admission ward screening, two cases (0.8%) from community screening and 29 cases (7.3%) were from other categories.

“The total bed capacity at Covid-19 Hospital is 966 units. Meanwhile, the Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) has 5,416 units, making it a total bed capacity of 6,382 units. The percentage of bed usage today is 32.09%,” he added.

According to Masidi, up to today, 299,780 food baskets have been distributed to the target group in Sabah.
