Nothing’s better on a cold, rainy day than a hot bowl of ramen to warm your tummy. Bankara Ramen is said to serve some of the best ramen in town. Its rich pork bone broth is packed with so much flavour, it’ll leave you slurping up every last drop in the bowl.

If you’re a true ramen lover, many highly recommend Menya Shi Shi Do. It’s so popular that customers often queue up for even up to an hour during peak hours. Definitely a place worth checking out if you’re looking for authentic Japanese pork soup ramen.

From the owners behind Menya Shi Shi Do, Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do in Gasket Alley, PJ is set up to teleport you to the streets of Japan in the ’80s.

Much like its other restaurant, it serves delicious bowls of ramen with broths such as spicy pork soup, black garlic pork soup, original pork soup, and more.

Comfort looks like a few things in life, including a piping hot bowl of ramen, complete with a runny egg. The broth at Bari-Uma Ramen is said to be on the thicker side, is full of flavour, and comes with pork belly that melts in your mouth. Need we say more? 😛

Menya Musashi is a go-to spot for anyone who has a hankering for ramen. The broth is fragrant and full of flavour. Plus, you get to select from one of its flavoured oils, which adds to the soups’ tastiness.

The restaurants can rack up quite a queue, so I’d suggest visiting them at non-peak hours if you’re not in the mood to wait.

6. IPPUDO

What makes ramen great isn’t just the broth but the quality of the noodles, which is what IPPUDO gets just right.

Known as one of the more famous tonkotsu ramen shops in Japan, IPPUDO has outlets all over the world. It opened its first outlet in Malaysia back in 2013 and has since grown to have several branches in the country.

Having been around for several years now, Chiba Ramen is a neighbourhood gem in Cheras, which has gained attention for its affordable and tasty bowls of ramen. Prices are as low as RM10 per bowl!

Take note that you might need to queue up, especially during peak hours.

The term ‘ramen’ supposedly comes from the Chinese equivalent term ‘lamian’, which translates to ‘pulled noodles’.

Paradise Dynasty serves hearty bowls of lamian that are packed with flavour. The noodles’ texture is of good quality with just the right amount of springiness, as its made fresh at the restaurant. Whether you’re a spicy or non-spicy eater, the restaurant caters to both.

Torazou Ramen offers a quick ramen fix if you’re in the Kuchai area. The broth is flavourful while the noodles are springy. The food is pretty decent, especially if you’re in the mood for ramen.

Serving not just bowls of ramen, this little fusion joint in Sri Petaling doubles up as a bar with cocktails. The ramen broth is reviewed to be flavourful yet not too oily, while its ‘King of Pork Chop ramen’ comes with a huge slab of pork.

Bear in mind that it has a fusion menu, so if you’re looking for truly authentic Japanese cuisine, you might not find it here. Nonetheless, you will get a good bowl of ramen that’s worth trying.

11. Ramen Seirock-ya Uptown

Helmed by a Japanese chef, Ramen Seirock-ya was first launched in Japan over a decade ago and has since opened a couple of outlets in Malaysia.

It serves halal-certified ramen with broth that steals the show.

If you’re looking for a chill hangout spot, this restaurant in PJ serves tonkotsu ramen, as well as a unique miso soymilk broth. One customer shared with SAYS that she liked how the noodles have a thick, chewy consistency while the broth is rich with flavour.

For the alcohol lover, it also offers drinks, such as sake and soju. The interior of the restaurant, although pretty small, has quite a cosy ambience as well, with neon lights adorning its walls.

13. Menya Hanabi

Unlike the typical broth-based ramens, Menya Hanabi has been particularly raved for its mazesoba (dry ramen). One reviewer said in the Malaysian context, it can be likened to something similar to chilli pan mee but it’s less coarse.

Marutama Ra-men offers ramen in a savoury chicken-based broth. But what sells it is the noodles’ texture, which pairs perfectly. According to its Facebook page, the noodles are freshly made daily by its in-house Japanese chef.
