1,229 Covid-19 cases, 4 deaths

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,229 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours. Selangor had the highest number of cases (435), followed by Sabah (333) and Kuala Lumpur (131).

Most of the Selangor cases were from existing clusters and close contact screenings, while 200 cases overall were from clusters at prisons and temporary detention centres.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,309 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 69,393.

A total of 13,667 people are still being treated, with 115 of them in the intensive care unit and 65 requiring respiratory assistance.

Only two of today’s cases were imported, Noor Hisham said.

Other states and federal territories with new cases reported today were Perak (105), Johor (103), Negeri Sembilan (29), Pahang (28), Penang (26), Kedah (13), Terengganu (12), Melaka (7), Labuan (6) and Perlis (one).

The prison and detention clusters were: Tembok (103 cases), Rumah Merah (78 cases), Jalan Harapan prison (12), Bakti (three cases), and one case each at Kepayan prison, PTS Sibuga, Matambai and Seberang Perai prison.

On the four deaths, Noor Hisham said they involved two men and two weman. Of the deceased, three are Malaysians and one is a foreign national.

The deaths were recorded in Selangor, Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan. They were between 29 to 83 years old, and all three Malaysians had a history of chronic illnesses.
